Peter D. Asquith is an Emeritus Professor at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. He received his PhD from the Department in History and Philosophy of Science at Indiana University after receiving an MA from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh. His BA is from Lehigh University. In 1962-63 he attended the University of Vienna. He originally joined the MSU faculty in 1969 as with a joint appointment in Lyman Briggs College, a residential unit in the Natural Sciences, and the Department of Philosophy. He was a member of the group of faculty hired to be the original instructors in the junior level sequence on Logic, History of Science and Philosophy of Science at Lyman Briggs. He was Chair of the Philosophy Department from 1990 to 2000 when he moved to the Dean’s Office in the College of Arts and Letters as Associate Dean for Research. In 2006 he moved to a joint appointment with the Vice Provost Libraries, Computing and Technology and Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies serving as Director of the MSU Kuali-Coeus Project — a multi-university project to produce research administration software. In 2011 he retired from his academic position, but continued to work on the Kuali-Coeus Project for another two years.

He was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Philosophy of Science Association in 1971 and continued serving as Executive Secretary until 1996. During this time he improved PSA’s financial accountability, oversaw the incorporation of PSA, instituted the PSA Newsletter, arranged for PSA to publish its own meeting proceedings, oversaw the computerization of PSA’s business operations, and arranged regular joint meetings with the History of Science Society, The Society for the History of Technology and the Society for the Social Studies of Science.
